Day 1

Hi everyone, and welcome to Day 1 of more posting!!

Not all of these posts will be about books, but they'll be something related to reading or writing.
One particular book I could read over and over again is called Skulduggery Pleasant.  The author is Derek Landy.  Skulduggery Pleasant (called SP from here on in) is a witty, smart, sarcastic, and brilliant detective.  One odd thing: he's also a walking, talking, magic-using skeleton.  When Stephanie Edgley's uncle dies mysteriously, she meets the detective (who is heavily disguised) and notices something odd about him.  Later on, when Stephanie is in her uncle's house, she is attacked by a man.  SP saves her and from them on, she is caught up in a world of sorcerers, good versus evil, and danger.  I recommend this book to anyone who enjoys magic, fantasy, or wants a good laugh.

E-Books vs. Books

Another class post!  I promise I'll start back up with the book reviews!!!!

This is about the battle between books and e-books.  In my opinion, I like both types the same.  Normal books you can read as many times as you want, and the local library has many to borrow whenever you want and enjoy.  E-books, however, are different.  You have to pay to buy them (and sometimes rent them), and the digital reader you need for them could be in use, charging, or just plain broken!  It is my opinion that e-books will eventually win out in the future, unfortunately.  Print books can be translated into digital to be used on e-readers, and the companies can make money off of them as people start to buy them.  Also, to actually read these e-books you need the e-reader provided by the company.  If you have an Amazon Kindle, for example, and you want to buy an e-book that is only offered for the Barnes and Noble Nook, then you're out of luck.  But if you want a print book and the library doesn't have it, you can request it from another library.  There will gradually be more and more books offered for e-readers, and the use of print books will decline.  However, I'll still be using print books, you can count on that!

Second Review!

So much for posting last week...

This should make up for it though.  Although I'm currently in class, my instructor said that this blog post would be a free post.  So, here is my second book review!

The most recent book I read was called Firelight by Spohie Jordan.  It was about a girl named Jacinda.  She is a draki, a descendant of dragons.  She (and the rest of her tribe) have a valuable secret: they can turn into humans if they so desire.  However, there are men who hunt the draki for their skin.  Jacinda's mother decides to leave the pride after Jacinda almost gets caught by hunters.  She takes her and her sister, Tamra, to a dry town near the desert.  Jacinda struggles to fit into her new life, while still wanting to return to the tribe in the mountains.  She meets a boy named Will who shows interest in her.  However, she also learns that Will is a hunter.  I won't spoil the ending, but I will tell you it is very dramatic.  There are mroe books planned in the series, but no titles have been released as of right now.

Where Has The Time Gone?

Hello to everyone!  Sorry I haven't updated in a while, swimming and school've been keeping me busy.  This is another class post, but it is also a review post!
The book I just read was Eon: Dragoneye Reborn.  It's by Alison Goodman, an Australian writer.  The second one is a work in progress and I cannot wait until it's published!  The main storyline is set in the past (from the way it is described, China), with twelve dragons ruling the heavens.  Dragoneyes are the men (no women) who can control the dragons' powers using their Hua, an energy force that runs through all living things.  There are twelve dragons, one for each animal on the Chinese calendar.  For example: the Dog Dragon, the Tiger Dragon, the Goat Dragon, etc.  The main two dragons in this book are the Rat Dragon and the Dragon Dragon, or the Mirror Dragon.  Nobody has seen the Mirror Dragon for 500 years, until a boy named Eon reawakens it.  However, Eon has a secret: he is actually a she, her true name is Eona.  Can Eon use the dragon's power to stop the evil Lord Ido from taking over?  read the book!  you can get it at Barnes and noble or your local library, which is what I did.
I thought the plot of this book was fresh and new, and the author puts a lot of description into her writing.  I was so engrossed in the book that I finished it in two days (and that's pretty impressive considering I can only read at night)!  I am eagerly awaiting the sequel.  Every scene was so incredibly detailed, even going as far to mention the bricks crumbling on a faraway corner on a wall!  I hope you all enjoy it as much as I did!

What's Going On

Hi everyone,
Just to let you know (because you may or may not be wondering), I haven't been to the library in a while, so I have no books.  I mean, sure I have all the ones on my bookcase, but I practically know those stories by heart!  So until I get to the library, I won't post another book review.  Hopefully that will be soon!
